How much will a motorbike licence cost?
Before learning to ride a motorbike customers want to know how much will a motorbike licence cost? 3CMT offer a range of motorbike courses to suit different experience levels and attract customers from Reading, Slough, Maidenhead, Windsor, Bracknell, Basingstoke and many other local areas. 3CMT motorbike courses contain all the elements you require to complete your motorbike licence. So how much will a motorbike licence cost?
CBT only
The lowest cost route to motorbiking is to get your CBT certificate. This will allow you to ride (if you are 17 years old or more) up to 125cc (an A1 light motorcycle), geared or automatic, on L plates for 2 years before you would need to renew your CBT certificate. Along with a provisional licence and your motorcycle safety gear, this will be all you will need. You will not be able to carry a passenger nor go on motorways. At the time of this blog a 3CMT CBT costs £199 (unless further training is required to complete the syllabus). Find out more about CBT HERE.
Full Licence – Experience level
The biggest factor affecting the cost of your motorcycle course will be your experience level. For a complete novice our most popular Novice Course consists of a Compulsory Basic Training day (CBT), 4 further training days and 2 test days, so 7 days in total. Find more details HERE for the complete cost.
For riders who have already completed a CBT and have some reasonable riding experience, then our Experienced Course is 3 training days and 2 tests days. Find more details HERE for the complete cost.
It is important to be honest with your experience level and not book purely on the cheapest cost. If you cut your training time short then you will create stress for yourself and if you do not pass your tests first time you will incur extra cost for more training and re-tests.
Fixed Elements
There are a few fixed elements that must be included on your journey to getting a motorbike licence.
- Driving Licence. If you do not have an existing UK driving licence with provisional motorcycle entitlement you will need to apply for your provisional driving licence. At the time of this blog a Provisional Driving Licence application costs £34 online.
- You must have a valid CBT Certificate (DL196) in order to take your Module 1 and Module 2 practical tests. At the time of this blog a 3CMT CBT costs £199 and will be included as part of your course if you need one.
- You must have a valid Theory Test Certificate in order to take your Module 1 and Module 2 practical tests. At the time of this blog a Motorcycle Theory Test costs £23 and will be included as part of your course if you need one.
- Module 1 Motorcycle Test fee. At the time of this blog the cost of the Mod 1 test is £15.50 and will be included as part of your course.
- Module 2 Motorcycle Test fee. At the time of this blog the cost of the Mod 2 test is £75 and will be included as part of your course.
If you already have a CBT and / or a Theory test certificate, 3CMT have different course options that exclude those elements and so we can tailor your course to your needs.
Equipment
If you are wanting to ride a motorcycle you will need to invest in your safety gear. You will need your own motorcycle helmet, jacket, gloves and strong boots. There are plenty of good shops in the Reading, Farnborough and Camberley area and have options for every budget. At the lower end of the scale expect to budget around £300 for some entry level motorcycle gear.
Motorcycle Hire
All 3CMT motorcycle courses include the hire of the relevant motorcycle to your licence type, fuel and insurance.
Motorbike training vs Car lessons
A search for average car driving lesson costs returns the following;
“Driving lesson costs in the UK typically range from £25 to £60 per hour. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) recommends around 45 hours of lessons, which could cost anywhere from £1,125 to £2,700. However, the actual cost can vary based on factors like location, instructor, and whether you opt for manual or automatic lessons.“
So a motorcycle licence can be cheaper to obtain. In addition, learning to drive a car and eventually take your car test can take the best part of a year. You can get a motorcycle licence in 2 weeks with 3CMT ready-to-book motorcycle courses. Check HERE for more details and find your course match or give us a call on 07810 892689.
