The 5 steps when you book a training course with 3 Counties Motorcycle Training are,
- Complete Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) on a 125cc motorcycle
- Take and pass a Motorcycle Theory Test
- Train on a restricted or full power motorcycle (age dependant)
- Take and pass a Module 1 Motorcycle Test
- Take and pass a Module 2 Motorcycle Test
3 Counties Motorcycling will book and manage all 5 steps of your training course as part of an all inclusive package.
Compulsory Basic Training
CBT could be a stand alone event or taken as part of the complete training package. No Theory Test is required before the CBT (but a theory test pass will be required to progress further). The CBT is usually a full day of training but it can take some riders longer. Successfully completing a CBT allows you to ride up to 125cc and 14.6bhp max, (also known as an A1 light motorcycle). Your CBT (DL196) certificate is valid for 2 years and should be kept safe to present when you come back in for training and also to the examiners on the days of your full motorcycle tests.
Theory Test
To progress on to a full motorcycle licence you will need to pass a Motorcycle Theory Test. There are 2 parts to the theory test.
- 50 multiple choice questions based on 3 books The Highway Code, Know your traffic signs and Riding – the essential skills. The pass mark is 43 out of 50 questions.
- 14 hazard perception video clips for you to detect developing hazards. The pass mark is 43 out of 75 points.
The Theory Test can be booked as part of your course package or you could book it yourself.
Motorcycle Training
Your training course with 3CMT will consist of a number of training sessions (usually 4hrs per day) to teach you to ride a large motorcycle to a level beyond just passing your tests. We want riders to have a set of skills to keep them safe for a lifetime of riding. The number of training days required are tailored to your experience, from complete novice to the more experienced.
Your training will be either on a full power category A motorcycle if you are 24 years old or more, or on an A2 restricted power motorcycle if you are between 19 and 23 years old.
Module 1 Test
The Mod 1 test is a series of bike control exercises conducted with an examiner and lasts about 15 minutes.
- Pushing and use of stands
- Slow control with a slalom, fig 8, straight line ride and U-turn
- Cornering and controlled stop
- Cornering and emergency stop
- Cornering and hazard avoidance
Passing a Mod 1 test does not change your licence entitlement in any way. It only allows you to then take a Module 2 test.
Module 2 Test
The Mod 2 test is a road ride with an examiner lasting around 35 minutes in a variety of road and traffic conditions that looks at your bike control, knowledge of the road, anticipation & planning, and ability to control your safety.
Whilst this might seem like an complicated progress 3CMT motorcycle courses contain all the necessary parts from start to finish and can be completed in between 4 or 8 training sessions depending on your experience and learning rate.
