Where will I do my motorbike tests?
Students training with 3CMT often ask “where will I do my motorbike tests?” In April 2009 the motorbike test in the UK was split into two parts;
- Module 1 a test of your motorcycle handling capability in a closed environment,
- Module 2 the road ride.
To build the Module 1 test centres the DVSA closed many regional test centres that, up until 2009, conducted the original single part motorbike road test. The result was some training schools were significantly disadvantaged as their students had to travel further to these new centres. However, 3CMT are conveniently placed near Reading to take advantage of four motorbike test centres; Farnborough, Uxbridge, Oxford, and Newbury.
For Module 1 the fixed format test is identical wherever you go (with just a very minor change in Oxford to the higher speed manoeuvre layout). For Module 2 the 3CMT philosophy is to train you to be capable of riding anywhere – after all, that is what you will be doing in real life – and so your Module 2 test location should also be of no issue. Wherever it is you will get the same balance of town centre, ring road, residential, and national speed limit scenarios to ensure tests are as uniform as possible across the country. In Uxbridge you might spend your time in quite a bit of traffic and so not go so far on the test (maybe 8-9 miles), in Oxford there will be a few 20mph zones in residential areas and villages, and Farnborough and Newbury have some nice open road sections.
On test days you meet as normal at our training centre in Reading and then ride to wherever you will be doing your tests. We have some regional-specific videos on our YouTube channel that show some local-specific scenarios that can help with your test.
