You will be getting approx 7 to 8 hours of training to successfully complete a CBT. This will then allow you to ride a 50cc moped (at 16 years old) or up to a 125cc motorcycle (for 17 year olds and over) for 2 years on L plates. You will not be able to carry passengers or ride on a motorway.
You do not need to go on and do a full motorcycle test, but to keep on riding when your CBT certificate expires after 2 years you will need to do another CBT to get a new certificate.
When you look at the current prices for car driving lessons coupled with the costs of car ownership then a motorcycle CBT and owning 2 wheels works out cheaper. Many people are now looking to drop the 2nd car from the driveway and find a cheaper way to commute and bring down the cost of their transport bill. This will also help reduce congestion, you will get to your destination quicker and save money in the process. You will almost certainly have more fun and may even go on to do a full motorcycle test.
