Consultation to end sales of new non-zero emission motorcycles
The UK Government currently has an open consultation to end sales of new non zero emission motorcycles. Specifically this consultation seeks opinions as to when (not if) the UK should stop selling new non-zero emission L-category vehicles.
The proposal is;
- 2035 for all L-category vehicles at the latest
- 2030 for L1, L2, L3e-A1, L6 and L7 sub-category vehicles
L category vehicles are powered Light vehicles and include motorcycles. The 2035 date would include all motorcycles along with the proposal to halt the sale of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. But the earlier 2030 date is for mopeds and 125cc (A1) light motorcycles.
Respond to the consultation by 21st September. Small capacity motorcycles can massively cut down congestion, the use of larger vehicles, and contribute to a better transport policy. They are also a necessary route to which riders can obtain a motorcycles licence for a larger size bike.
